Where does your student stand?

Ten yes or no questions across the five things selective universities look for. About three minutes. You see the result straight away, with one next step for each area.

Subject direction

Does your student know which subject (or two or three subjects) they want to study at university?

Have they checked that their current or planned A-level, IB or equivalent subjects meet that course's entry requirements?

Reading beyond the syllabus

In the last three months, have they read a book, long article or lecture about their subject beyond what school set?

Could they explain, in two minutes, an idea from that reading and why it interested them?

Admissions tests

Do they know whether the courses they're considering need an admissions test (for example the UCAT, ESAT, TMUA, TARA or LNAT)?

If a test is needed, do they know when it's sat and have they started preparing?

Experience and research

Have they done (or arranged) work experience, volunteering or a placement connected to their subject?

Have they done a project, competition, EPQ or research task in their subject outside normal lessons?

Timeline and plan

Do they know which UCAS deadline applies to their course (15 October for Oxford, Cambridge and most Medicine courses, or January for most others)?

Is there a written plan for the next 6 to 12 months: what to read, which tests, which experiences, and by when?
